Article 5: Challenge Based Learning
These sites, videos, and readings on Challenge Based Learning were very interesting and informational for me as this is the first time that I've ever been introduced to the concept. I think this is a great way for students to really explore their own potential to make a difference and also delve into a deeper level of thinking. I personally think that as a student prior to being in college, I wasn't forced to think analytically and really challenge myself as often as I should have been. When students are able to use complex problem solving skills and think beyond surface level concepts and ideas, they acquire a lot of valuable knowledge and experience that will be applicable across a plethora of life situations.
I also really like that this experience will help to empower kids and help them see that they are capable of being world changers. It gives them a safe environment to step out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves to think outside the box and also have to opportunity to build their leadership skills and their ability to work with others. Challenge Based Learning seems to be a fun, empowering, and character building activity that can really enhance a student's learning opportunities. I'm excited to get to put this lesson together with my group.

I really like that you talk about empowering kids. It's important that we teach our students that they are our future. Also, that we challenge them to make decisions and understand why their opinions and views are important. Students spend a lot of the time that they are awake and active in our classrooms so we need to make sure that we are preparing them for their futures by challenging them, inspiring then, and understanding them.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you that it is a great way to get kids thinking more analytically and deeper into the concepts we teach them in school. When we were in school as kids were weren't taught in the way that CBL would give students the chance to explore more complex level of thinking and I wonder now if that is why we have become so brainwashed into thinking a certain way toward assignments and needing strict guidelines because we were not able to explore outside the box when we were younger. I also like how you talked about empowering kids and working in a safe environment to gain leadership and confidence in their education. It's a great skill for them to learn early on and CBL can only enhance their energy for school and learning.
Nice Writing!

I think it is a great point that students will be empowered by Challenge Based Learning. I think it is really important for students to take ownership over their own learning, and Challenge Based Learning is a way for them to choose to study something they are interested in and make a difference at the same time. I also wish that I had been encouraged to think analytically before college, and I think it is awesome that you want to encourage your future students to think critically!
